If there's anyone with truckloads of insurance claims data, it's State Farm, the nation's largest insurer. To take advantage of all that data, several years ago State Farm developed its own vehicle ratings showing high and low premiums based on the previous claims for those cars.
Shown here are the most expensive vehicles to insure, according to State Farm's claims records. These are vehicles that were shown to have "significantly higher-than-standard" premiums for liability (an index of bodily injury and property damage liability) and damage and theft (an index of collision and comprehensive premiums).
Also shown is the available "vehicle safety discount" for these models, which goes as high as 40 percent off the standard premium. These ratings apply to model years 2005 to 2008 that are insured by State Farm. They do not apply in Massachusetts or North Carolina and are pending approval in California. The full list of vehicle ratings can be found at statefarm.com.
