Who would a person contact if they are being given the runaround by an insurance company? My son was in an accident three weeks ago and is making a claim on the other person's insurance. An appraiser from the insured's company has not yet visited the body shop to give an estimate so that the process can be started to have the car fixed.

Dear Kathy,
Your state's department of insurance regulates the auto insurance industry in your state and is responsible for taking complaints against insurers. Many insurance departments now offer the ability to initiate a complaint online, on their Web sites. To find department contact information, choose your state from the menu at the top of this page.
