If you hit a deer, does your comprehensive or collision insurance pay for the damage to your vehicle? What coverage would apply if you are injured in the accident? What do you do with the poor animal?
Tracey, New Jersey
Dear Tracey,
Your comprehensive coverage would pay for the damage to your vehicle if you hit a deer. The medical coverage under your policy, such as personal injury protection or MedPay, would pay for any medical costs that stemmed from the accident.
If you hit a deer, I suggest you file a report with the local police department. They will know how to dispose of the animal.
