Another driver hit my car while it was parked in a shopping mall parking lot and neglected to leave a note. What are my insurance options for getting my car fixed?
Donnie, Georgia
Dear Donnie,
If you have uninsured motorist property-damage insurance, you can file a claim on that coverage. You're in luck, because you can only buy this insurance in about half of the United States. Georgia is one of the states where you can buy it. (For more information, read How to buy uninsured motorist property-damage coverage.)
If you don't have uninsured motorist property-damage coverage, you can file a claim on your collision insurance (if you have it). Of course, you will have to pay your deductible.
If you don't have either one of these coverages, you will unfortunately have to pay for the damage to your vehicle out of your own pocket.
