What happens if I get into a wreck and do not have car insurance? What if I am at fault, or what if I am not at fault?

Because it is illegal to drive without auto insurance, you could be issued a traffic ticket for driving uninsured. If you are caught without insurance more than once, you could be arrested for subsequent violations.

If you are in an accident that is your fault, you will be personally responsible for any repair and injury costs to the other people involved. If you are in an accident that is not your fault, you can make a claim on the at-fault driver's insurance policy regardless of your uninsured status.
