PA Insurance Commissioner Asks Libraries to Help Promote 'CHIP' to Uninsured Children, Families
Courtesy of PRNewswire.com

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Insurance Department is asking 700 public libraries across the state to help raise awareness of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which provides free or low-cost health insurance to children.

The Insurance Department has distributed static cling stickers that are designed to be placed on libraries' public-use computer monitors and urge library patrons to visit the new CHIP Web site, http://www.chipcoverspakids.com .

"Since its launch in the spring, our new CHIP Web site has received more than one-million hits per month," said Insurance Commissioner Diane Koken. "We launched our new Web site at a library because libraries are where many consumers enjoy free access the Internet.

"Now, hopefully, when you log onto a library computer, you'll be reminded that comprehensive medical coverage for your children is only a few mouse-clicks away."

Under current CHIP guidelines, a family of four can earn up to $47,000 a year and qualify for a generous health benefits package for their children. Additionally, under Governor Edward G. Rendell's proposed "Cover All Kids" initiative, families at even higher income levels would be eligible for comprehensive health coverage.

"As the CHIP program expands, our new Web site will serve as an immediate reference for any updates or changes to the program," Koken said. We are also using a new dedicated phone line for consumers to leave their points of contact to learn about any new eligibility guidelines. This toll-free number is 1-866-712-CHIP."
