Empire BlueCross BlueShield to change name
By Insure.com

Empire BlueCross BlueShield announced on Dec. 7 that it is changing its name to Empire HealthChoice.

The name change will take effect Jan. 1, 2001. Empire HealthChoice, which is New York's largest health insurer, says there will be no change in products and services as a result.

"We believe the name Empire HealthChoice reflects the flexibility and array of choices we now offer our customers and members," says Michael Stocker, president and CEO.

The name under which the company conducts business in 13 counties of northern New Jersey will also change from Empire Health Care Inc. to WellChoice.

In addition, Empire HealthChoice Inc. in New York will change its name to Empire HealthChoice HMO Inc. In New Jersey, Empire Health Care HMO will change its name to WellChoice HMO of New Jersey, and Empire Health Plans Assurance Inc. will change its name to WellChoice Insurance of New Jersey Inc.
