Ask the Home Insurance Expert
What is an insurance score based on?
Insurance risk scores are similar to credit risk scores. Both look at your credit information, but the two are not the same thing. While both insurance scores and credit scores look at similar characteristics of a person's credit report, the data is weighted differently. However, the same behaviors that hurt your credit score (late payments, payments in collection, too many accounts, being close to your credit limits, etc.) can also lead to higher insurance premiums.
