Unknown to me and through my own error, my homeowners was canceled at the end of August. What company is easiest to deal with under these circumstances? My postal designation was changed, I was sick, and never notified the company.
Linda, Pennsylvania
Dear Linda,
I can't make recommendations about specific companies, but here are some steps you might take as you shop around for a new policy.
Contact an independent agent in your area. To find one, visit the Independent Insurance Agents of America's home page or check your Yellow Pages.
When all else fails, contact an agent about getting a policy from the Pennsylvania FAIR Plan. This is the state's home insurer of last resort, and you'll be able to get coverage from them — but it'll cost you. The FAIR Plan's policies are a lot more expensive, which is why you should look to get coverage from a private insurer first. You can find more information in Which states have a FAIR Plan?
