I store my motorcycle and sports car in my garage during the winter. If something should happen to them while they are in my garage, are they covered under my homeowners insurance?
Scott, Wisconsin
Dear Scott,
While nothing in insurance is absolute, I can assure you that this comes close: Homeowners policies don't cover motor vehicles.
Since the liability portion of your auto insurance covers the damage you do to people and property when you're driving, it's not something you'll need when your car and bike are safely tucked away for the winter. Talk to your agent about getting liability on the two vehicles just for the summer months when you drive them. (You'll need to keep the collision and comprehensive portions of the policy, just in case something unfortunate happens to either vehicle.)
