If I am renting out my condominum and I own and live in a house, does my homeowners insurance from the home I live in cover injury to my tenants that live in my condominium?
Roni, California

Dear Roni,
The answer to your question is no, your homeowners policy on the home that you live in will not extend to the tenants in your condominium. You should look into taking out a second policy. Allstate offers a landlords package, which is "tailored to a nonowner occupied, one- to four-family rental property."
You may be able to get a discount if you insure your two properties with one insurer. The discount will vary depending on a number of factors, such as your zip code and the insurance company you use. You can find information on multipolicy discounts in our Link Directory.
