Our neighborhood experienced 20 minutes of marble-sized to golf ball-sized hail. State Farm inspected the roof and stated that "loss of granules" is not hail damage and only offered to pay 50 percent of the composition roof damage.
Three qualified roofers inspected the roof and stated the five-year-old roof must be replaced. A State Farm adjuster sent a letter referring me to the policy's Appraisal/Arbitration clause. In Texas, does loss of granules result from hail damage?

Dear David,
Gary Julian, a property/casualty specialist with the Texas Department of Insurance, says that loss of granules could be a result of normal wear and tear, but could also come from hail damage. However, he couldn't offer any advice on your claim. He says that you should call the department so that someone can get to the bottom of your problem. The department can be reached at (512) 463-6464.
