More than a month ago, an independent propane-company driver lost control of his truck and ran it through my garage door and partially out the end of my house. The owner wanted to settle privately, but I called in my State Farm agent for advice.
The agent took pictures and assured me that the two estimates I was getting would be fine in the event the propane man didn't come through.
Apparently, "Mr. Propane" has no insurance and no money, but State Farm won't accept my estimates. We repaired our home but they won't pay the total bill. Our agent won't go to bat with the adjuster on our behalf. What can I do? Anita, Arkansas
Dear Anita,
I spoke with Charlye Crawford, a spokesperson for the Arkansas Department of Insurance, about your problem. She says the best move at this point is to call the department's consumer division. You can reach them at (800) 852-5494. It sounds as if you have legitimate grounds for a complaint against State Farm, if not your agent as well, and the department will be able to intervene on your behalf if that is the case.
