Do all life insurance companies require a physical exam?
Most policy applications do require a medical exam in order to determine your health status.
Generally, an adult under the age of 40 who is apply for a $100,000 life insurance policy would not need to undergo a full medical exam but might need to have an oral fluid test, blood test and urinalysis. If you are over 40 and apply for a policy that is more than $100,000, you may be required to take a paramedical or medical exam. Some companies require at least a urine specimen from everyone applying, regardless of the amount of the policy.
Some companies offer "guaranteed issue" and "simplified issue" that require no medical exam, but only that you answer some basic health questions. However, even if you have some medical problems (like high blood pressure that's controlled by medication), you are likely to get better rates from an underwritten policy that requires an exam.
