If I take out a loan against the cash value of my life insurance policy, is it reported to the credit bureaus?
Linda, Tennessee
According to Dave Remstad, vice president of life products for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., loans against the cash value of a life insurance policy are not reported to credit bureaus.
"The generally accepted view is that your cash value is an item on the plus side of your balance sheet," says Remstad. "It's your own money, so we don't — and I'm not aware of any company that does — report loans against the cash value of a life insurance policy to the consumer credit agencies."
