Last summer I was notified by Prudential that I would get compensation from the demutualization in about three to four months. Since then I haven't heard anything. Has the company demutualized? When will I get this compensation I was promised?
Jim, New Jersey
Dear Jim,
Prudential has completed its demutualization with a Dec. 13, 2001, initial public offering of stock (read Prudential goes public, raises upwards of $3 billion for more information), and on Jan. 4, 2007, began mailing notification letters to policyholders who chose to receive stock. The insurer hopes to complete that process by Jan. 19.
If you elected to receive cash in the demutualization, you may have to wait a bit longer. According to Laurita Warner, a spokesperson for Prudential, the insurer has not yet determined how much in cash compensation will be awarded (nor was she able to speculate as to a time frame).
If you did elect to receive stock and do not receive anything within a few days of Jan. 19, or if you have any further questions, you should contact Prudential directly through the Shareholder Services Call Center set up by the insurer specifically to answer questions about the IPO. The phone number is (800) 305-9404 and is staffed from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
