How can I get a non-owner's car insurance policy?
Contact insurance agents to request information about non-owners policies and compare rates. You can't get car insurance quotes online for non-owners policies.
A non-owners policy is designed for people who don't own vehicles but borrow cars from friends and relatives or frequently rent vehicles. Although an insured friend's policy would provide liability protection when borrowing his car, your assets would be at risk if you caused a serious accident that resulted in expensive damage and injuries exceeding your friend's liability limits.
You can buy rental car insurance when you do business with car rental companies, but a non-owners policy might be a better deal if you frequently rent vehicles.

A non-owners policy provides liability protection. It doesn't include optional types of coverage available with a standard car insurance policy, such as comprehensive, collision and towing reimbursement. The policies usually do not have deductibles, unless uninsured/underinsured property-damage coverage is required in your state.
Premiums for these policies are about half of what you'd pay for standard car insurance. They provide coverage when you rent a vehicle and kick in as secondary coverage if you crash an insured friend's car. In the latter case, the vehicle owner's insurance would pay out first, and then if the cost of the crash exceeded that policy's liability limits, then the non-owner's policy would pay the rest.
