Ask the Car Insurance Expert
Do I need to insure my old car if I'm not driving it?
The law does not require you to insure a car that you are not driving. However, if you get behind the wheel even once – a quick trip to the grocery store for example – you will likely be breaking the law. Most states require you to carry liability car insurance. Also, keep in mind that if you don’t have insurance and your car is parked outdoors and it’s damaged by vandals, you will have to pay for the damages yourself.
