Ask the Car Insurance Expert
My friend asked to borrow my truck to move his stuff to a new apartment. While he was driving he hit a pole. Question: Who should file the insurance to repair my truck? We both have same insurance company.
Your friend’s insurance doesn’t cover your truck. You’ll need to make a claim on your own collision coverage, if you have collision on your policy, and the claim amount will be reduced by your deductible.
If you don’t have collision coverage, there’s no insurance for this particular accident – but it would be nice if your friend paid for the repairs. It does not matter that you have the same insurance company.
Which brings us to something we frequently suggest: Don’t let friends drive your car!
