Auto Insurance: Frequently asked questions

Question:
Should I expect my premium to increase if I reported an accident to my insurance company in which I was not at fault?

Answer:

It is unlikely you would see a car insurance premium increase solely because you were in an accident in which another person was found at fault.

However, your premium could increase if that accident was one of several you had throughout the year or in recent years. Even if all the accidents were not your fault, your insurance company may assume there is something hazardous about your driving and thus charge you a higher premium.
