Founded in 1883, from the merger of AGO Holding N.V. and Ennia N.V., AEGON has become one of the largest life insurance and pension companies in the world with over 30,000 employees and 40 million customers in over 20 different countries. It acquired Scottish Equitable in 1994 and Guardian Royal Exchange in 1999. That year, it also bought Transamerica Corporation.
