About American Family Insurance
American Family's history dates back to 1927, when Herman Witter opened the door of Farmer Mutual Insurance Company. Targeting farmers, auto insurance was the only product offered at this time. Over the years, Farmers Mutual broadened its market and product line to better fit the changing needs of its customers. In 1963, the company changed its name to American Family to reflect this expansion. Today, American Family Insurance is serving customers nationwide in areas of auto, home, health, life and business.
American Family Insurance (aka AmFam) is a private mutual company that focuses on property, casualty and auto insurance, but also offers commercial insurance, life, health, and homeowners coverage, as well as investment and retirement-planning products. A Fortune 500 company, its revenues for 2007 were over $6.8 billion.
American Family's insurance products include: term, universal, variable universal, and whole life insurance; personal and business auto insurance, personal umbrella insurance, home insurance; business liability key policy, and business policy package insurance; farm and ranch liability insurance; travel, trip cancellation and global medical insurance.
