Homeowners insurance combines various personal insurance protections, which can include losses occurring to one's home, its contents, loss of its use (additional living expenses) and loss of other personal possessions of the homeowner, as well as liability insurance for accidents that may happen at the home. It requires that at least one of the named insured occupy the home. Damages covered include fire or lightning, windstorm or hail, explosion, riot or civil commotion, collision with vehicles or aircraft, smoke, vandalism, theft, volcanic eruption, falling objects, and the weight of ice, snow or sleet.
