InsWeb's online insurance marketplaces enable consumers to comparison shop for auto and home insurance products, as well as obtain life insurance quotes. Consumers can compare quotes from more than 30 auto insurance and 20 homeowners insurance providers. Upon viewing a quote, the consumer will be contacted by one of InsWeb's carrier partners or local agents to complete the transaction offline.

Founded in 1995 by Hussein A. Enan and Darrell Ticehurst, InsWeb became a publicly traded company in 1999. InsWeb created the first online insurance marketplace. InsWeb.com was the first Web site that allowed a user to receive multiple insurance quotes from multiple providers by filling out a single form.
InsWeb Health Insurance Says
Through its partnerships, InsWeb offers a variety of health insurance policies including HMOs, PPOs and POSs.
- HMOs -- oldest form of managed care and typically the least expensive way to receive medical care. HMOs offer a range of benefits, including preventive care, for a set monthly fee. HMO plans generally do not have deductibles.
- PPOs -- allow the client to use any physician when medically necessary. However, if the client opts to use a "preferred provider" from the insurance company's network, the insurer will pay for a higher percentage of the costs.
- Point of Service (POS) health insurance plans combine characteristics of HMOs and PPOs. The client chooses a primary care physician who controls all aspects of care, including referrals to specialists. All care received under that physician's guidance, including referrals, is fully covered.
- Major Medical -- the least restrictive option of the three main health insurance plans. It allows the client to see any licensed health care professional for anything covered by the insurance.
