About Mercury Insurance
In 1962, Mercury Insurance Group was created as a low cost alternative
to larger insurance companies. The company was solely operating
in California until 1990, when it began to expand throughout the
nation. Today, Mercury Insurance provides insurance to
individuals, families and businesses.
Wiki Says
Mercury markets itself as a low cost insurance leader and originally
sold insurance solely through third-party agencies and insurance
brokers. This was the main pathway they used to market their local
presence in every region they sell insurance, passing along to the
customer some of the savings of not having its own sales force, as well
as limiting its liability for agent errors. Mercury announced January
9, 2009 that they purchased AIS Management, LLC, which is the parent
company of Auto Insurance Specialists, LLC, to Mercury General
Corporation. AIS had been the largest brokerage selling Mercury
Insurance. AIS and the remaining independent brokers are responsible
for sales, initial underwriting, vehicle inspections, general customer
service, some forms of billing and collections, endorsements, policy
cancellations and other duties.
Although Mercury uses brokers to sell their insurance, Mercury then
directly contacts applicants to verify the accuracy of information on
the application, and determine rates where applicable.
Mercury Car Insurance Says
Mercury offers car policyholders a variety of types of coverage.
These options include bodily injury liability, personal injury
protection, property damage liability, comprehensive and
collision. The company also offers mechanical breakdown coverage
that can be used to obtain an extended warranty on a vehicle. Car
insurance premium charges are dependent on age, gender, vehicle type,
driving/claims history as well as an applicant's credit score.
Discounts and payment plans are also available for eligible customers.
