About Protective Life

Protective’s values-oriented management philosophy was established by its founder, former Alabama Governor, William Dorsey Jelks, who started Protective Life Insurance Company in 1907. Believing that serving people begins with being worthy of their trust, Jelks’ commitment to Protective’s customers, shareholders, and employees remains today the focus of the company’s leadership. Beginning in the 1920s, Protective embarked on an expansion policy. In 1928, they made one of the first major landmark buildings in Birmingham its new home, and by the end of the decade brought the amount of insurance in force to almost $6 million, a substantial sum in 1928. Protective continued to grow, even through the dark economic times of the 1930s. Colonel William J. Rushton assumed the top leadership position at the company in 1937, and for the next three decades guided it with the same sound leadership that had come to characterize their company.

Protective Life Insurance Says

Protective offers five different kinds of life insurance. These are term life, whole life, universal life, variable life and variable-universal life. Term life insurance is an insurance policy that covers family needs and protects financial stability for a specific period of time. Usually it lasts 5, 10, 15, or 20 years. It provides a non-taxable death benefit, less expensive premiums, and protection for a specific period of time. Whole life insurance is the most common of the permanent life insurance policies. The premiums and the death benefit usually are constant over the life of the policy. Universal life insurance offers flexibility on both premium payments and the death benefit that the insured’s family receives. Variable life insurance is a type of life insurance that is tied to the performance of the financial market. The cash value and death benefit may grow more quickly with this policy, but their is more risk. variable universal life insurance combines features of  variable and universal life insurance policies. The insured has the investment risk/reward, as with variable life insurance, and the ability to adjust the premium  and death benefit, as with universal life insurance.
