New organizer application could ease home insurance claims process

A cell phone application for managing paperwork provides a new way to update home inventories for insurance purposes.

AboutOne's Family Organizer app is available now for Android and Windows phones. The mobile technology company will release a version for iPhone users in the next month.

The app lets users scan or snap a photo of a receipt for a new possession and instantly add the item to a home inventory, with links to warranty information, user's guide and the place of purchase. The details then are available for returns or insurance claims. In the next release, the app will alert the user about relevant product recalls, AboutOne said.

The app also lets users scan health records and medical bills, as well as make notes of reminders about appointments and keep emergency contact information.

"With AboutOne and our suite of mobile apps, a mom really does have family life in the palm of her hand," AboutOne founder and CEO Joanne Lang said in a press statement.
