Drivers filing car insurance claims with Esurance now can get vehicle damage appraisals and payments on the spot using their smartphones.
The company says the new mobile app tool eases and speeds up the car insurance claims process. The feature, available in the latest version of Esurance Mobile, lets people filing claims video chat with an insurance company appraiser, and even get an electronic payment to settle the claim at the end of the video session. The technology eliminates the need for the appraiser to inspect the vehicle in person or for the customer to leave the car in the shop for an appraisal.
Video appraisal is available for Esurance customers as well as non-policyholders who have a claim with Esurance. After filing a claim, customers schedule an appointment with the company. During the video session, the appraiser shows how and where to video the damage.
The company says no other insurance company in the United States offers real-time video appraisal as part of its claims experience.
