Washington and Oregon drivers who purchase new General Motors vehicles are eligible for a free year of car insurance from MetLife Auto & Home.
The automaker is offering free auto insurance for buyers of 2010, 2011 or 2012 Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac car, truck or crossover from July 6 to Sept. 6.
GM said it is testing auto insurance as a standard feature to determine consumer appeal. It is available only to Oregon and Washington residents with valid driver's licenses who title their vehicle in those states.
The auto insurance exceeds state requirements and includes liability, personal injury protection, uninsured/underinsured motorist, collision and comprehensive coverage. It also includes full car replacement coverage, which pays for a brand-new vehicle if the original is totaled in the first year or first 15,000 miles, whichever comes first.
After one year, policyholders can apply to renew through MetLife or buy car insurance through another provider.
