GMAC Insurance is changing its name to National General Insurance.
The new name and logo will appear on websites, correspondence, underwriting systems and elsewhere by July 1. The change does not affect coverage or claims of existing policyholders and will not affect current policies in any way, the company said.
"This is the culmination of three-plus years of transformation into a world-class insurer," Michael Karfunkel, the company's chairman and CEO, said in a press statement.
GMAC is one of the largest auto insurance companies in the United States. In the last few years, the company adopted a new policy administration system and began offering supplemental health insurance products.
"The new National General Insurance brand enables us to establish our own identity while maintaining our more than 70 years of industry experience, our breadth of products and our national reach," President Byron Storms said in a press release.
