Two insurers are teaming up with retailers and home control and monitoring providers to give customers special offers on products and services and discounts on home insurance.
State Farm announced that it's partnering with home improvement retailer Lowe's and smart-home technology company ADT.
Liberty Mutual Insurance announced that it's teaming up with home automation company Vivant.
Home control and monitoring devices let customers use a computer or smart phone or tablet to monitor and manage their homes from anywhere. Customers can remotely arm and disarm security systems, lock and unlock doors, and turn lights on and off. The systems also include home temperature and water leak sensors.
State Farm customers can get 10 percent discounts on installation and monthly service fees if they sign up for ADT services, and up to a 15 percent discount on their home insurance premiums. At Lowe's, State Farm customers can qualify for $25 off of Iris Starter Kits, a do-it-yourself smart-home solution, and up to a 7 percent home insurance discount.
Vivant customers, meanwhile, can save up to 10 percent on auto insurance and 5 percent on home insurance through Liberty Mutual. Vivant home security customers could save up to an additional 20 percent on the theft peril and 15 percent on the fire peril on their home insurance policies. Liberty Mutual will also waive the home insurance deductible for theft claims when a Vivant customer has an active installed burglary alarm.
