Anyone who has purchased life insurance can add pictures of their loved ones to the online "Insure Your Love Picture Mosaic" sponsored by the LIFE Foundation.
The foundation created the mosaic, available on its Facebook fan page, to celebrate those who made the decision to financially protect their loved ones with life insurance. For every picture that is uploaded to the mosaic, $1 will be donated to the LIFE Lessons Scholarship Program, which provides college tuition assistance for students who have lost a parent.
September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, an annual campaign supported by more than 100 leading life insurance companies and industry associations. Although most Americans recognize the importance of life insurance, 30 percent of U.S. households have no life insurance, according to LIMRA, a research and consulting firm that tracks the industry.
Basketball and reality TV star Lamar Odom is the national spokesperson for this year's campaign. Odom was raised in a single-parent household and lost his mother, Cathy, to colon cancer when he was 12. In public service announcements to air throughout the year, Odom explains how life insurance enabled him to continue his education and keep his life on track.
