Allstate, State Farm and Geico topped the list of most reputable car insurance companies, according to a consumer survey by Market Force Information in Boulder, Colo., a global customer research firm for financial institutions, retailers, packaged goods companies and other markets.
Allstate led the pack with nearly 22 percent of the votes. State Farm followed closely with slightly over 21 percent and Geico ranked third with 14 percent. USAA and Progressive followed with each earning 6 percent of the votes.
Most customers, 59 percent, said their decision to choose one car insurance company over another was based on car insurance rates, while 27 percent cited the ability for a company to meet all their insurance needs. Two-thirds of customers reported they buy other types of insurance from their car insurance companies, according to the survey. Other factors ranking high in the selection process included recommendations from friends and the company's financial stability.
Of the 18 percent of survey respondents who reported filing a car insurance claim in the past year, 85 percent said they were satisfied with the way the claim was processed.
In terms of communicating value to customers, Geico outscored others by a large margin with 39 percent of respondents saying the company did the best job in that realm, followed by Allstate, 22 percent; Progressive, 17 percent; and State Farm, 11 percent.
