The Deepwater Horizon Claims Center has opened 18 intake centers across the Gulf Coast to process claims from individuals and businesses who suffered losses in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Claims for both economic losses and medical issues can be filed at the centers. For more information on filing claims, check out the Deepwater Horizon Claims Center's Web pages for economic and property damage claims and medical benefits.
The new intake centers are part of a settlement reached this spring, according to a report in the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The settlement was intended to prevent a trial involving thousands of health and economic-damage claims on the part of individuals and businesses who suffered losses in the wake of the oil spill.
There is no cap on the amount of damages BP potentially could pay out, although the company is expecting a cost of about $7.8 billion.
