Ask the Life Insurance Expert

Do life insurance companies test for liver cancer?

Not exactly. They test for elevated liver enzymes. A positive test for elevated enzymes could have many causes, according to the Mayo Clinic, including alcohol use, obesity, some medications and, yes, possibly cancer.

Your life insurance rates can be affected by the test results, but you would need to visit your own doctor to determine the reason for your elevated liver enzymes.
