In 2007, three longtime insurers – assurity life, Security Financial Life and Lincoln Direct Life- combined under the assurity name. Each of these founding companies have been in business since the end of the 1800’s and the newly formed Assurity is maintaining their original principles. Today, Assurity is serving customers in 49 states with the tag line, “…helping people through difficult times.”
Assurity Life’s health insurance policies include four types of medical coverage: long-term care, disability income, critical illness and hospital indemnity insurance. Long-term care insurance is intended to help individuals for the future and provides benefits in the event of a long-term illness or injury. It covers care for an extended period of time at home, in an assisted living facility or at a nursing home, depending on the amount of coverage purchased. Disability income, as its name implies, offers financial protection by providing income replacement in the event of a disabling injury or illness. Critical illness insurance is designed to pay a lump sum to the policyholder when first diagnosed with one of the twelve serious illnesses named in the contract in hopes to ease the financial burdens associated with the treatment and care. This money can then be used at the insured’s discretion including being put toward medical expenses or mortgage payments. Hospital Indemnity plans provide benefits for hospitals and other medical expenses and range from supplemental coverage to stand-alone health insurance policies.
