• Subaru Forester: The Subaru Forester has a lower-than-average sticker price, so it’s one of the cheapest vehicles to insure. 
• Honda CR-V: The Honda CR-V is well-known for reliability, and it has lower maintenance and repair costs than most cars, so it’s less expensive to insure. 
• Subaru Crosstrek: The Subaru Crosstrek is among the least-stolen vehicles models, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. With a lower theft rate, it’s cheaper to insure.

More expensive vehicles with more complex electrical systems and added features are more expensive to repair or replace, and may be more prone to theft. In general, higher-priced vehicles, such as sports cars or luxury cars, are more expensive to insure. 

Overall, we found that the Tesla Model Y is the most expensive vehicle to insure — policies average $3,529 per year, more than 40% higher than the national average for all vehicles.  Teslas are more expensive than other vehicles because of their specialized parts and repair needs.

Cheapest car insurance companies for 2025’s best-selling cars

Car insurance premiums vary by company — in some cases, one insurer may offer coverage for hundreds less than another company. Nationwide is the cheapest insurance provider for the Ford F-Series — policies average $172 per month. By contrast, Allstate charges much more to insure the same car, averaging $322 per month. 

This pattern isn’t unique to the Ford F-Series. Nationwide and State Farm are among the cheapest insurers across multiple makes and models, while Allstate and Farmers were consistently more expensive than most.

• Honda CRV: The Honda CR-V is larger than the Rav4, but still relatively affordable. It starts at about $32,000. But, it’s less expensive to insure. On average, drivers pay $170 per month. 
• Nissan Sentra: One of the few sedans on our list, the Nissan Sentra is a sedan with a starting price of about $23,000. Car insurance averages $2,133 per year, which is a little over 15% less than the national average.

Insure.com editors in 2024 collected car insurance rates from Quadrant Information Services for a 40-year-old male driver. The sample driver carried liability limits of 100/300/100 and a $500 deductible for both collision and comprehensive coverage. Rates reflect a 12-mile commute and 10,000 annual miles.

We analyzed 67,566,780 quotes across 51 states, 472 cities, 510 ZIP codes, and 57 insurance companies, covering 1,661 make and model combinations.
