Average car insurance cost in Maine

While full coverage insurance is more expensive than minimum liability insurance, many drivers find the extra cost worth it. In Maine, the average cost of full coverage car insurance is $720 less than the national average car insurance cost.

While multiple full coverage limits are available, Insure.com editors recommend getting a policy with 100/300/100 coverage limits for adequate protection.

What is full coverage car insurance in Maine?

Full coverage car insurance includes bodily injury liability and property damage liability coverage, as well as comprehensive and collision coverage. Collision insurance covers your vehicle if it’s damaged or destroyed in an accident, while comprehensive insurance provides protection against damage that is caused by something other than collisions, such as hail or theft.

If you lease or finance your car in Maine, your lender may ask you to purchase collision and comprehensive insurance beyond the state-mandated liability coverage.

Final thoughts

While it’s common to look for ways to lower your car insurance premium, cutting corners on coverage could end up costing you much more in the long run.

Before purchasing an auto insurance policy, consider your specific needs to ensure you’re adequately covered. Since insurance rates can vary, it’s a good idea to compare quotes from multiple companies to find the right policy in Maine.
