Dairyland is based in Wisconsin, hence the name, but sells auto insurance nationwide. Dairyland was started in 1953 by a University of Wisconsin–Madison professor to help  inexperienced drivers, those with poor driving records or those who had other issues making it difficult to obtain auto insurance.

Sentry Insurance, formed in 1916, acquired Dairyland in 1966. In 2005, Sentry acquired Viking Insurance and merged it with Dairyland to give non-standard drivers even more options. Dairyland offers drivers competitive rates and affordable payment plans. Dairyland Cycle insures two-wheeled vehicles, such as motorcycles to scooters and mopeds.

Dairyland specializes in coverage for high-risk drivers who may not be able to find an auto policy elsewhere. Dairyland may be right for you if you:

• Multi-car discount:  If you insure multiple vehicles on the same household auto policy, you may be eligible to receive a multi-car discount. (or cap this to be consistent Multi-Car Discount)
• Homeowners discount: Whether you own a house, townhouse, condo or mobile home, your status as a homeowner may help you save on your auto insurance premiums. Receiving the homeowners discount is simple and can be applied instantly. (Some states also offer discounts for renters) 
• Anti-theft discount: If your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft device, you may be eligible to collect a discount on your comprehensive coverage.
• Advanced quote discount:  If you get quoted at least a week in advance of your desired insurance policy start date, you could be eligible for a discount.
• Transfer discount: With a Transfer Discount, you receive a discount for having insurance coverage in place at least six months prior to becoming our customer. You may be asked to provide a copy of your most recent car insurance declarations page as proof.  
• Payment frequency discount: Whether paying your insurance premium quarterly, every six months or all at once fits your needs, you may save with Dairyland’s quarterly or paid-in-full discounts.  
• Defensive driving discount: Provide proof that you’ve completed an approved driver safety course, and you may receive an additional discount.
