Insure.com surveyed 2,000 auto insurance customers, who rated their insurers on service quality, claims handling, policy options, discounts, digital tools and bundling. Scores were combined with AM Best financial strength ratings, NAIC complaint data and premium rate data from Quadrant Information Services to produce each insurer’s final rating.

Erie is one of the cheapest auto insurance companies in our survey, tied with American Family, with a monthly full coverage premium of $159. The only company that came in with a cheaper premium in our survey was USAA, which is only available to members of the military community and their families.See more rates in the table below.
Erie is a standout auto insurance company across most categories, including customer satisfaction, where it was the top overall company in this year’s survey with a score of 92% – it tied with CSAA Insurance Group (AAA in Northern California, Nevada and Utah).
When it comes to how easily customers can access policy documents and services, Erie’s customers gave it a score of 94% – only one point behind the top overall category scorer, Mercury, indicating that its customers are highly satisfied in this category.
Erie again scored the highest overall for policy offerings, with a score of 92%. This category measures how satisfied people are with the overall amount of policy options a carrier offers.
When customers were asked if they’d recommend their auto insurer to their friends and family members, 92% of Erie’s customers said they’d recommend the company to others – the top overall score in our survey.
The company is also highly trustworthy, with a score of 91% – the category average was 90%.
When asked whether they would renew their auto policies, 94% of Erie customers said they would renew their policies with the company, which is 2 points below the highest score earned by CSAA.
All the scores in the claims handling category were lower than previous categories – the average was 78% – but Erie scored 6 points above that average at 84%, only 3 points behind Auto Club Enterprises (AAA Southern California), the category leader.
For digital experience, which measures how consumers feel about the company’s app and website, Erie received a score of 74%, 8 points below average.
For discounts, Erie earned an average score of 60%, although it scored higher than the category average for auto/home bundling at 84% compared to 78%.

1) Bodily injury & property damage liability
What it covers: Pays for injuries or death and property damage to others when the insured driver is at fault.
2) Personal injury protection (PIP)/medical payments
What it covers: It covers medical expenses for the insured and passengers regardless of fault
3) Uninsured/underinsured motorist
What it covers: Covers injuries when the at‑fault driver has little or no insurance. In some states, it may also cover property damage.
4) Collision
What it covers: Pays to repair or replace the insured vehicle after a collision with another vehicle or object.
5) Comprehensive
What it covers: Covers non‑collision events (theft, vandalism, fire, falling objects, weather, animal strikes).
6) Rental car/transportation expense
What it covers: Provides reimbursement for a rental car or transportation while the insured vehicle is being repaired after a covered loss.
7) Roadside service
What it covers: Optional add‑on costing about $5 per vehicle; covers towing, jump‑starts, flat‑tire change, fuel delivery and lock‑out assistance.
8) First accident forgiveness
What it covers: Erie waives the premium surcharge for the first at‑fault accident after the customer has been insured with Erie for at least three consecutive years.
9) Rate lock
What it covers: It keeps your auto rate fixed from year to year, protecting you from increases after a claim.
10) Diminishing deductible
What it covers: If you stay claim-free, Erie’s diminishing deductible (part of the Auto Plus Endorsement) lowers your deductible by $100 each year, up to $500.

Methodology
In 2025, Insure.com surveyed more than 2,000 insurance consumers through an independent research firm, Dynata. Customers named their insurer and rated it on customer satisfaction, ease of service, policy options, claims handling, digital experience, discounts and bundling home with auto. We also asked whether they planned to renew, would recommend their insurer to friends and family and trusted their insurer.
