QBE’s history dates back over 120 years when it was founded in Australia. Since then, QBE has grown to have operations in 45 countries with around 13,000 employees worldwide. They are Australia’s largest international general insurance and reinsurance group, and one of the top 25 insurers and reinsurers worldwide.
The Americas Division produced more than $3.7 billion in gross written premium in 2008. Surplus strength of more than $1.7 billion supports diversified, stable portfolios in 40 locations spanning 22 states and four Latin American countries. The division underwrites a diverse mix of property, casualty and health business on a reinsurance, direct and excess and surplus basis.
QBE Insurance Group Limited is an Australian based general insurance provider, providing insurance services mainly to the Asia Pacific region, but also America and Europe (QBE European Operations). It has offices in 45 countries.
One of the largest companies in Australia, QBE has market capitalization of AU $27 billion, and represents 2.22 percent of the ASX 200 index. The company reported a 2006 profit of $1.483 billion.
QBE was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1973 from the merger of Queensland Insurance, Bankers’ and Traders’ Insurance Company, and The Equitable Probate and General Insurance Co.
