Country Insurance & Financial Services dates to 1925 when it began selling fire and lightning insurance to farmers in Illinois. Over the years it expanded its reach and its insurance products.

Today, Country Insurance is a mutual company that offers auto, home, farm and business insurance serving clients in 40 states.

It offers home insurance under the name Country Mutual Insurance Co. It also sells home insurance under Country Mutual, Country Preferred and Country Casualty in 17 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, and Wisconsin. The headquarters for these insurance companies is 1701 Towanda Ave., Bloomington, Ill.

Country also does business with independent agents under its alliance with The MiddleOak insurance group. The MiddleOak insurance group provides home insurance through the Middlesex Mutual Assurance Co. in Middletown, Conn., and Holyoke Mutual Insurance Company in Salem, Mass. Home insurance is available to residents of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont, through this alliance.

Options, discounts available

In addition to homeowners insurance, Country Insurance offers condo unit owners insurance, renters insurance, and rental property owners insurance.

If you’re buying home owners insurance, Country also offers you a number of options including personal umbrella insurance, identify theft coverage, jewelry coverage, watercraft coverage and recreational motor vehicle coverage on qualifying homes.

Other options include earthquake protection, sump-pump fialure and back-up of sewer or drainage systems, and inflation protection.

You may be eligible for discounts if you buy multiple policies from Country, as well as if your home has an alarm system, if your home’s wiring is a certain age, and your home does not have a wood-burning unit or has a built-in fireplace without a fireplace insert. If you live in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma and you have certain hail-resistant roofing, you may be eligible for a roof discount. Not all discounts are available in all states.
