In 2007, three longtime insurers – Assurity Life, Security Financial Life and Lincoln Direct Life- combined under the Assurity name. Each of these founding companies have been serving the public since the end of the 1800’s and the newly formed Assurity is maintaining its original principles. Today, Assurity is in 49 states with the tag line, “…helping people through difficult times.”
Assurity provides term-life, whole life and universal life insurance options for its customers. Like the name suggests, term-life insurance is coverage for a set term, usually a specified number of years. Within that time period, death benefits will be paid to the survivors if the insured dies. The rates on such policies are usually based on age. The younger you are, the lower the rates.
Whole life is an insurance policy that offers coverage for the policyholder’s lifetime. With set premiums, the policyholder will continue to be insured just as long as the payments are fulfilled.
Universal life also provides lifelong coverage. This differs from whole life mainly in universal life’s flexibility in payments. There are no set premium rates, so the policyholder has the ability to change the amount of coverage depending on the changes in their everyday life.
